I honestly struggled with this task. The only image that was current and made specifically for the exercise is the first one. I was standing at a tram stop in Floridsdorf when I noticed a woman wearing workout leggings with a slogan on them, paired with high-heeled boots. I zoomed in because I love the combination of high heels and workout leggings.

The last two images come from my older archive. Even back then, the text on the tote bag in the second image, “be yourself”, caught my attention. In the context of the entire image, the phrase felt very personal to me and also somewhat ironic. As an art student, I was struggling financially at the time, and in many ways I still am. I find that a word or slogan printed on an object or displayed in public can sometimes seem meaningless, yet in certain situations it can carry a strong and personal meaning.

The same applies to the third image. While waiting for the U3 at Stephansplatz, a bouquet immediately caught my eye. It was a beautiful bouquet of flowers thrown into the trash, with the display underneath reading “residual waste.” I found this amusing — not only unattractive things are thrown away; beautiful things can also become waste.
